Your Gateway to Inclusive
Software & Web

Although many of us can use a computer to navigate the web, access websites, and complete any and all tasks with no extra assistance or modification, not everyone can use software so easily. According to the World Health Organization, as much as 15% of the population has some kind of visual, hearing, speech, and/or physical challenge, and this can significantly affect their experience as a user of the internet.

So here’s the big question: can this segment of the public - one that adds up to millions of people globally - access your software or webpage as easily as everybody else?

Not sure?

Avantica’s Accessibility Audit can quickly and efficiently help you make this determination.

Accessibility Audit:

What's Involved?

During this audit, Avantica will analyze your product to verify that it complies with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.1 guidelines as well as Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of the United States

An Accessibility Audit includes:

  • Based on industry best practices, a prioritized list of areas for improvement
  • A page-by-page review of your entire website or an appropriate sample of your website or application
  • Detailed recommendations on how to make the prioritized improvements
  • A summary of Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 compliance for your product
  • A list of all Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 violations found in your website or application

Examples of Tests Performed

Some questions we would resolve:

  • If there was no mouse plugged in, could the user navigate this page/software and perform the same tasks?
  • If the screen was turned off, could the user still access the content?
  • Are the fonts big enough for a user to read without much effort?
  • Would someone with color vision deficiency have trouble distinguishing the content?

What Do You Gain

Making certain your software/web is accessible brings several benefits:

  • Accessible websites and other software products can be used by people with disabilities and impairments, as well as by aging populations. This provides a larger, more diverse potential user base.
  • Accessible design indirectly leads to cleaner websites/applications. This lowers load times and increases user satisfaction.
  • Accessible websites or applications are a great way of indirectly performing search engine optimization. SEO algorithms reward accessible designs.
  • Accessibility testing allows quality assurance engineers to perform more thorough testing. This means they can examine details that are often overlooked by functional tests.

Risks of Accessibility

A disability, where it involves an impairment, limitation of activity, or an impediment for participation restrictions, should not be an obstacle when accessing and connecting with your company or organization.

Creating an accessible digital channel allows companies to not only increase their reach to the widest possible range of users, it also inspires and reminds our consumers that we are clear on our responsibility in making tech accessible to all.

If your product fails to adhere to accessibility guidelines, this can have negative effects:

  • Low accessibility can affect user performance in a product and limit its profitability.
  • Lack of software accessibility can be seen as discrimination against people with disabilities, which, depending on the client’s particular situation and the respective country’s legislation, could have legal repercussions.
  • BSoftware products with low accessibility often lead to deficient designs, which in turn cause user discontent and negatively affect web traffic.
  • Not providing an alternative way for people with disabilities to properly access software products and website can lead to bad publicity
